Instructions for Installation, Care and Use

Download Instructions for Care and Use.pdf (80KB)

N-PIN Inc. has designed these end pins to withstand the most adverse conditions; however, the following guidelines will increase the life span and function of your end pin.

If you or your Luthier have any questions, please contact N-PIN Inc.

Please read our disclaimer before use or installation.

1) Installation:

  1.      Take your end pin to a professional Luthier to be installed. DO NOT INSTALL YOUR END PIN YOURSELF.

  2.      All N-PIN Inc. end pins are designed as a replacement plug, meaning the tapered section of the plug is slightly larger than most industry standard end pin plugs. The taper has a ratio of 1:17 or 3.37º included angle. The large diameter is 33.0 mm (1.300”) for bass and 25.4 mm (1.000”) for cello.

2) Adjusting your Quick Release (QR) Mechanism

  1.      To operate your Quick Release (QR) Mechanism, simply open lever away from the plug, which will relieve pressure on your pin. Adjust pin to desired length. Push lever towards the plug to reestablish pressure on the pin. If there is not enough pressure to hold the pin securely, adjust your QR Mechanism as described below.

  2.      To adjust your Quick Release Mechanism, use the tightening screw located on the opposite side of the lever. Turning the tightening screw clockwise will make it tighter, and turning it counter clockwise will give a looser hold.

  3.      For greater comfort and ease of use, your QR Mechanism can be rotated around your end pin plug. Simply unclamp your QR lever and position the QR Mechanism to the side of the plug most convenient for you.

  4.      Do NOT over tighten your QR Mechanism. Over tightening will cause premature wearing of the plastic bushing of the QR Mechanism. Find the optimal tightness where the pin will not slip through your end pin without excessive force from the QR Mechanism.

  5.      Keep the surface of the pivot point of your QR Mechanism clean. Dirt or other foreign objects will cause premature wear of the QR Mechanism. To clean, simply wipe with a dry paper towel. It may be necessary to take the lever completely off, clean the surface, then replace the lever.

3) Carbide Tip

  1.      To prevent injury and damage to your instrument and/or other objects, always use your Rubber Tip Protector and keep your end pin fully inside your instrument when not in use.

  2.      Do NOT test the limits of your tip. It is made of an ultra-hard material which should hold up to cement, tile or other hard surfaces; however, the less stress you put on your tip, the longer it will last. Use your Rubber Tip Protector whenever possible.

  3.      If your tip becomes damaged, contact N-PIN Inc.

4) Rubber Tip Protector

  1.      Keep credit or bank cards and electronic devices at least 30 cm (12”) away from the Rubber Tip Protector. The rubber tip features a rare earth permanent magnet which can damage electronic and magnetic devices if they get too close to it.

  2.      Be gentle with your Rubber Tip Protector. Do not throw or drop the Rubber Tip Protector onto tip or other objects. To prevent wear, do not let point of tip scrape inside of magnet when putting on or taking off the Rubber Tip Protector.

  3.      Keep the inside and outside of the Rubber Tip Protector clean and dry. Dirt or other foreign objects will reduce the life of this product.

  4.      When your instrument is not in use, store the Rubber Tip Protector on the Carbide Tip to reduce the chance of damage or injury.

  5.      If you are using the tip without the Rubber Tip Protector, be careful where you leave the Rubber Tip Protector. Being small and black they are easy to misplace

5) Wheel Adaptor (Bass only)

  1.      When using the Wheel Adaptor, make sure that not more than one inch of the Wheel Adaptor rod is exposed.

  2.      Do NOT clamp the carbon fiber shaft with pliers or other tools; use only your N-PIN plug to hold it. Carbon fiber is relatively soft, so hard metal can leave marks.
